March 19 - Bequia is a small island nine miles south of Saint Vincent, part of the nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines - at seven square miles, it is the largest of the Grenadines. The population of just over 5000 supports a small Rotary Club.
Since the Bequia club meets on Tuesday evening and the island is accessed only by ferry from Saint Vincent - or "the mainland" as Saint Vincent is called by the Bequians - the GSE team spent the good portion of a day with two of the Rotarians, Sylvester and Clinton.
Maintaining a Rotary club on a small island presents challenges. This includes keeping a viable active membership, raising funds for local projects, and trying to be part of the district that at time can seem like an ocean away.
