Archiplus Design - Fort de France, Martinique

March 11 - I met with Astrid Rodap, an interior architecture designer. She was born in Martinique, studied in Paris, and moved back home. She has her own company in Fort de France, called Archiplus Design, which specializes in design, drafting, and project management from conception to realization.

Her employees include an administrative assistant and a drafter/associate designer. We talked about her business and visited one of her current projects under construction. It's a small office building. The modern design is refreshing and I liked how each office had a circular cut-out for sliding glass doors. Modern architecture is prevalent in Martinique.

Then we went back to her office and worked together with a furniture representative to specify furniture for that same job. I helped with color selection and chose some nice break room chairs with a circle back to play off the circles throughout the building.

It was very similar to what I do back home. The main difference was trying to do it in French. Astrid spoke some English, but neither the associate designer nor the furniture rep did. I learned that blanc is white, noir is black, and gris is gray. And we all concluded that 'expensive' is a universal term. It was a great time spent with a great designer. Thanks Astrid!
